With technology now being utilised in classrooms as a consistent learning tool, there’s never been a more fitting time to explore the best educational YouTube channels. However, with thousands of YouTube channels to choose from, finding the best resources can seem like a daunting task. Fortunately, there are plenty of child-friendly YouTube channels for your kids to get stuck into. We’ve rounded up five of our favourites for primary school aged students.
BBC Teach is an excellent YouTube channel for students of all levels. It contains thousands of free curriculum-based videos which are all produced by the BBC, so they’re high quality. Even better, all the videos are categorised by subject and KS1, KS2, KS3 group, making it easy to find specific content for your child. With loads of videos covering all primary school subject areas, including English, maths, science, drama, music, history and languages, it’s an excellent educational resource that will keep students busy for hours. There’s even a really useful children’s mental health series that kids and adults will find helpful!
Crash Course Kids is a fantastic way to engage primary school aged children in the exciting world of science. Covering topics ranging from habitats to space to chemical reactions, the producers of this content have one goal— making science fun. Even though it’s an American channel, most of the content will apply to children currently working at KS2 and all kids who have an interest in how the world works. They even have a Crash Course general channel too, which covers even more topics, like history, geography, astronomy, chemistry, zoology and more!
The National Geographic Kids YouTube channel is full of fun and interesting videos for primary school aged children to enjoy. This channel has content about animals, science, culture, weird facts and much more. The videos are short, but informative, meaning there’s loads for children to choose from to feed their curiosity and grow their love of learning.
Homeschool Pop is a wonderfully diverse educational YouTube channel. Its videos are largely based on early KS2 content, but the channel also includes some useful content for 10-11 year olds. With videos about everything from maths and history to geography and languages, there isn’t much this channel hasn’t explored. It is an American channel, so some videos may not align with the National Curriculum, but its content is a great way to help boost your child’s knowledge and get them interested in core subject content.
Silly School Education is a bright and exciting YouTube channel that shares fun and easy to learn educational songs, animations and plays for primary school aged students. Developed by teachers, the channel was originally created during lockdown to engage kids in learning, and it’s become a key educational resource that’s used all over the world. The channel covers loads of useful subject content too, with plenty of videos about grammar, phonics, maths, seasons, days of the week and more. It’s an enjoyable channel that will be sure to keep you and your kids singing for hours.
